Described as “a sophisticated and playful reinterpretation of the iconic Air Force 1” via the Jacquemus website, there is no doubt that this version of the classic silhouette will divide opinions. Reintroducing the embossed mini-Swoosh that featured on the Air Humara means there is no need for the large sidewall Swoosh, one way in which the update tones down the bulky AF1 silhouette. Of course, the most obvious change comes via the new minimalist midsole. Now while the woven upper and midsole might appear like a wild new feature, it’s actually almost 20 years old. The Nike ACG Considered Longball Lace shoe from ’07 used the same exact woven method, a detail inspired by an ancient piece of Albanian footwear called the Opanek, debuting on the cult favourite Air Footscape Woven.

The Jacquemus x Nike J Force “Black Woven” is steeped in Swoosh-based history, with your standard Air Force 1 Low upper formed out of a supple black leather. Underfoot remains the traditional Nike waffle pattern, while up above the dubrae and tongue patch brandish the new “JF1” initials. The usual set of flat laces are readily threaded on, with leather lace tabs once again influenced by the silhouette’s Considered background.
