Already dubbed amongst many sneakerheads as shoe of the year, the iconic Air Jordan 1 High OG is back in the “Chicago Reimagined” colourway. Coming out on November 19th, it’s been over seven years since we last saw a retro of this legendary Jordan and they have been sorely missed.
With a whole new audience of sneaker lovers being ushered in after binge-watching Netflix’s The Last Dance series, the want for this classic red, white, and black colourway has never been higher. The people over at the Swoosh know this too as the shoe is available in all men’s, women’s and junior sizes.
Imagine being out in the US, clawing through the basement of a mom & pop’s store and coming across this shoe box, mismatched lid and all. That was the story behind this design, the team at Jordan brand closely studying OG pairs from 1985, analysing how they had aged through years of storage. The materials have also been used to reflect this, the cracked leather on the ankle collar, the yellowing midsoles and oxidised sole. They have also paid homage to the original release pairs by using a thicker swoosh and higher cut, similar to what we saw with last year’s Neutral Grey release.
The regular wrapping paper has been thrown out too, replaced by what resembles old newspaper that uses old Jordan ads as its print. The final cherry on top of the cake is the old receipt card. With this shoe being ‘lost’ way before contactless payments, the hand signed receipt card is a detail that truly seals the deal.
